Building

Textiles, scaffolding, ratchet straps, lace.

2026

This piece, first exhibited at the De La Warr Pavilion, holds the physical and psychic tensions embedded in the materials of the built environment. The elastic gauze reads simultaneously as hosiery and scaffolding netting; the taut planes and slumping folds evoking the abject, unruly body, set against the rigid frame’s insistence on order and containment. The fabric sags, gathers and stretches unevenly, refusing to hold the same disciplined lines as the scaffolding structure.
